Date: July 14, 8:30 am
Location: Grand Mesa/Mesa Top Trail Head
Details: Grand Mesa Trail Construction Project

Location: Mesa Top Trail
Date: July 14, 2012

Join Antonelli's Advanced Automotive, COPMOBA and Grand Mesa Forest Service on July 14 as trail construction is continued high atop the Grand Mesa.   The Mesa Top trail is designed to be a Quiet Use trail connecting HWY 65 with the recently constructed Flowing Park Trail.  Three miles of trail have already been constructed over the last year and we have 4 more miles to go.  The trail skirts natural ponds, sneaks along a narrow hidden bench and bursts out onto the very edge of the Mesa above Clear Lake with unparallel views of the Elk and San Juan mountain ranges.  With the completion of this trail and a new parking area being built near the Flowing Park trailhead, this area will provide riding opportunities for both mellow and more ambitious riders.  There are already two loop options off the Mesa Top trail which use the Flowing Park road for the return portion.

There is no experience necessary.  All tools and crew leaders will be provided by COPMOBA.  We will be working in rocky areas so wear sturdy shoes, gloves, eye protection and long pants or shin guards.  We will be away from the parking area for 4-5 hours so pack some water, lunch, sunscreen, insect repellant and extra clothing.  We will be shuttling to the work site in vehicles or you can ride your bike 3 miles on the new trail and meet us there.  There will be a BBQ sponsored by Antonelli's Advanced Automotive and hosted by Doug Killerud and his family when we return to the trailhead.  There could even be some door prizes. So escape the heat for a day and be a part of what is sure to become an amazing trail system.

We will meet at the Mesa Top trailhead between 8:30-9:00. From Grand Junction take I-70 east and then Exit #49.  Stay on Highway 65 for 31 miles and look for the Mesa Top Trailhead just past the Lands End Road intersection.

There will be a camp out, possibly breakfast (Doug's World Famous Pancakes) and a ride the next day if you are interested.  Call 970-270-8575 for information on this or any other part of the project.

Please RSVP via COPMOBA's Facebook page, COPMOBA's email (coordinator@copmoba.org) or Dan at 970-270-8575 so we know how many tools and how much food to bring.

Hope to see you there!
