Cerro Summit Trail Work Planned

The Colorado Plateau Mountain Bike Trail Association (COPMOBA) in cooperation with the City of Montrose is organizing another trail work day on Cerro Summit on June 7, 2014.  The work session will begin at 9 AM at Cerro Summit, and end at 3 PM.  Cerro Summit is 10 miles east of Montrose along highway 50.  Volunteers can sign up by going online at www.copmoba.org, click on the Calendar selection, and then click on the Cerro Summit listing.  Volunteers are encouraged to bring, food, water, clothing appropriate for the weather, sun screen, work gloves and sturdy footwear.  Following the work session, starting at 4 PM there will be a party for all volunteers at 2 Rascals Brewing Company, 147 N. First St.  -  food and 1 beverage courtesy of COPMOBA. Be sure to include shirt size when registering.  All hikers, runners and mountain bikers are invited to join the fun.
The Cerro Summit Trails project is a true community effort.  Along with private donors, Colorado Archaeological Society, Chipeta Chapter,  Montrose Rotary Club, Montrose Daily Press, Edward Jones Investments – Mike King, Jolley Smiles Orthodontics, Treefeather Creative, Cascade Bicycles, Mesa Family Chiropractic, Colorado Boy Pizza, Pediatric Associates, Montrose Dermatology, Two Rascals Brewing Company and Colorado West Ophthalmology have donated to the trail project.  Over 50 individuals have helped with trail construction so far – join the fun!

REI has awarded the Cerro Summit Trails project a $5000 grant, so it will be busy on Cerro Summit this summer.  More about the grant as details are released.

Coming up on Sunday, June 22 – While the Bicycle Tour of Colorado is in town for the evening, the Montrose Area Bicycle Alliance (MABA) and the Colorado Plateau Mountain Bike Trail Association (COPMOBA) will be hosting a beer garden for the ride participants and public.  It will be at Rotary Park by Columbine Middle School.  Local breweries will be providing beverages and generously donating a portion of their proceeds.  Please come and support our local businesses and local non-profit cycling organizations.  We can still use volunteers to help set-up, take-down work at the beer garden in 2 hour shifts during the late afternoon through late evening.  Please contact Laurie Brandt at laurieb@buckhorngeo.com if you would like to volunteer.
