RAT Update

April 15, 2014
COPMOBA/RAT spent much of this past winter working with BLM and various contractors to create a viable plan for completing construction of approximately 20 miles of new trail this summer.  To be located just north of Ridgway on BLM and Ridgway Reservoir State Park land, the new trail system has been over 8 years in planning.

Our implementation plan hinges primarily on securing the services of an Americorps volunteer trail crew for 8 weeks starting in late May or early June.  Southwest Youth Corps has agreed to provide a crew of 8-10 professional trail-builders for the first two weekends of June.  We expect to find out about Americorps on or about April 14, 2014.

Also critical to our summer plan is obtaining the funding necessary to hire a BLM approved supervisor to coordinate our trail crews for 8-10 weeks.  Our fundraising efforts have brought us within reach of our funding goals and we expect to get over the top with proceeds from our 4th annual RATFEST summer fundraiser.  On May 31st we'll again stage RATFEST at Ridgway Town Park.  Attractions will include live accoustic-rock and jam music from Good Times Music Company (Montrose) on the Ridgway Park Concert Quick read more or view full article Stage, food vendors, group fun rides, live auction, silent auction, bike demos and, don't forget, excellent craft beer from New Belgium Brewery and Ridgway's own Colorado Boy Brewery. We'll start the day with some trail construction/maintenance on local trails, and the party will start around 3:00pm in the park.

Regardless whether we reach our goals with Youth Corps and Americorps, RAT, BLM and Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado (VOC) will host a two-day trail construction effort on May 10th and 11th.  VOC is a Colorado, non-profit corporation, long respected for fostering stewardship of Colorado's outdoor resources.  VOC hopes to attract over 100 volunteers from all over Colorado for this major event.  Ridgway State Park will make camping facilities available and VOC will provide meals for all registered participants.  Only pre-registered volunteers may participate.
