Ridgway Area Trails

RAT End-of-Year Report

Since January 1, 2015, RAT has:
  • Received $200,000 in grant funding from Colorado Parks & Wildlife (CPW)
  • Received $8,000 in grant funding from REI 
  • Received over $75,000 in-kind donations from:
               -Ouray County  
               -Blue Door GIS
              - Bennett Forge Works 
  • Raised nearly $8,000 in additional donations and merchandise sales
  • Used the CPW grant funds and Ouray County donation to:
               -Construct 7.23 miles of awesome, new singletrack mountain bike trails
               -Build a new trailhead on Ouray County Road 10
               -Sign all new and existing trails on BLM land
  • Used the REI grant funds and Bennett Forge Works donation to build and install a way-finding sign in Ridgway Town Park to help visitors find RAT singletrack and other outdoor recreational opportunities in and near Ridgway
  • Used the Blue Door GIS donation to create phenomenal Geo-referenced PDF trail maps (download all maps at bluedoorgis.com and the RAT Facebook Page)
  • Put in over 600 volunteer hours building and maintaining trails, including:
               -Maintenance on Weaver Park and Quick read more or view full article BLM trails
               -Construction of 0.85 miles of new trail, including 8 engineered switcbacks on Big Cheese
  • Sought and received from Ridgway Town Council approval for construction of additional singletrack in Weaver Park 
  • Initiated work on a partnership with Ouray County and Top of the Pines, Inc., to design and build new singletrack on county land off County Road 5, southwest of Ridgway
  • Completed upgrade of the RAT website  
  • Received 198 additional likes on Facebook, bringing the RAT total to 685
  • Partnered with the Uncompahgre (Montrose) Chapter of COPMOBA in an application for a 2016 Colorado Parks & Wildlife Large Trail Construction Grant in the amount of $200,000

RAT/COPMOBA has applied for an additional $200K in Colorado Parks & Wildlife grant money to build an additional 8.5 miles of trail in 2016 and 2017. Public comment is now open until January 11th for the CPW Non-Motorized Trail Grants. Positive public input is critical to the success of this grant. If you like riding the trails RAT built in 2015, please take time to help us out now. This is a very important step in the process. Comments can be sent via email or mail to CPW.
