Recreate Locally and Responsibly

The Colorado Plateau Mountain Bike Trail Association (COPMOBA) understands and is committed to the many positive impacts of outdoor recreation and the outdoor recreation economy, and a critical part of that impact is the responsible participation in outdoor recreation at all times. In accordance with Governor Polis’ stay-at-home order, which is in effect from March 26-April 11, we must take action on a local basis to follow these requirements and recreate responsibly and locally. COPMOBA recognizes the physical and mental health value of outdoor recreation, and encourages residents to utilize our resources responsibly, to maintain the physical separation that is required at all times, and to follow guidelines from public health agencies to support our critical public health needs. Recent statements of closure for various municipal and county areas have influenced many to travel to areas of interest for recreational opportunity, and the Western Slope has received a large influx of visitors congregating in unhealthy densities at local trailheads and recreation hot-spots.  This activity does not support our community health needs, and needs to cease immediately. This is NOT the time to travel for recreational pursuits. COPMOBA encourages all residents to utilize the outdoors in a responsible manner and to seek areas of lower density for your activities. Utilize your LOCAL trails and outdoor resources rather than traveling to recreation destination locations. Responsible recreation use also dictates that we recognize the extreme demands that exist now for ALL medical services and medical response activities that might be required for accidents in the outdoors. Be aware of your level of risk, moderate to more practical levels to reduce the risk of accident and personal injury. Play it safe and avoid any potential of putting more strain on our medical services! As we move through this crisis situation, the special trails and outdoor feel of western Colorado will once again call to all visitors. However, at this time, we strongly request that you respect our local communities and their health needs, and wait for another day to enjoy these resources.Happy Trails!
