Trail Maintenance Update
Trail Maintenance Work in the Kokopelli Trail System over Thanksgiving Holiday and into December
Lion’s Loop Maintenance
The Grand Valley Trails Crew work will be addressing trail degradation and maintenance needs on Lion's Loop within the Kokopelli Trail System during the week of Thanksgiving and into December (11/30-12/3) as the work requires and conditions allow. Please be aware that trail use of Lion's Loop may be impacted during this maintenance and to consider use of other trails to not impede the work of the trail crew and potentially damage the trail and surrounding public lands.
Trail Maintenance Map
Mesa County has set up an interactive Trails Maintenance Map where the public can see the results of the Grand Valley Canyons chapter of COPMOBA's survey work identifying trail maintenance issues on the non-motorized, singletrack trails of the Grand Valley built and maintained by COPMOBA. The Trails Maintenance Map is viewable online and is a dynamic resource with a constantly evolving dataset of surveyed issues, proposed efforts, and planned maintenance organized and managed by Mesa County, WCCC, and COPMOBA. Public feedback may be submitted via: grandvalley@copmoba.org.
Grand Valley Trails Crew
Beginning in the fall of 2020, through a partnership between Mesa County, Colorado Plateau Mountain-Bike Trail Association (COPMOBA), the City of Fruita, Grand Junction, and Western Colorado Conservation Corp (WCCC), the trails community hired and is currently overseeing a professional, non-motorized, singletrack trail maintenance crew. The Grand Valley Trails Crew is tasked with performing trail maintenance and trail projects within Mesa County and on the non-motorized singletrack trails of the 18 Road Trails System, Kokopelli Trail System, Lunch Loops Trail System, and trails in Palisade and the Grand Mesa. The Trail Crew is a result of the work of Mesa County's Trails Coordinator, the WCCC, and volunteers with the Grand Valley Chapter of COPMOBA. The Grand Valley Trails Crew is funded through grants and contributions from the organizing partners and has funding secured through winter 2021. Work is scheduled and prioritized through trail survey work conducted by COPMOBA trail crew leaders and with suggestions by the public. The Grand Valley Trails Crew and their maintenance work are a reflection of the priority COPMOBA and the partners place on maintaining the world-class trails on the public lands within Mesa County. This dedicated trail maintenance effort is a recognition of the value and importance to our community of these trails and the riders who travel from across the country and around the world to enjoy them.
